Lockdown Lowdown – Working Smarter
So we’ve now passed 50 days in lockdown and the world is certainly a different place to the “pre- COVID-19” days. However, it’s not all bad news.
Whilst certain sectors of the economy are undoubtedly facing tough times, lockdown has meant that organisations have had to carefully review their structure and how they operate. As a result some really neat solutions and a savvier use of technology has emerged in places. Some organisations are also looking to collaborate on new exciting projects both nationally and internationally. There is nothing more uplifting than seeing the research and design outputs of the international effort to combat coronavirus. But in these times of rapid change, don’t forget that there are still certain things you need to think about to make sure that the enterprising spirit continues long into the future:
- If you are working on something new, the chances are there will be intellectual property rights that you need to think about (both your own and those of others);
- If you are working with others, don’t forget to put in place an agreement that covers what happens if things work out and also what happens if they don’t;
- Do remember your regulatory obligations. If personal data is involved in your new project, remember the principle of privacy by design; and
- Don’t forget to think about how you are going to keep your data, both hardcopy and electronic, secure.
Of course there will be other things you need to consider, but don’t let some of the legal considerations be put on the back burner. Tackling them up front really can help save time, energy and commercial relationships.
